Day 4 Thursday 8/29


Today we completed our work from yesterday by brainstorming our "5 most important things you need to know" about the Civil War. first in partners, then groups of 4, then groups of 8. We then had time to work on writing our summaries, and then worked on the language of our first LT.

Homework: Complete your Civil War writing piece (please proofread before turning in). This should be approximately 1 page. For specific parameters let's say 3/4pg to 1.5 pages. Use your activity and conversations from today as well as your notes in your notebook to complete your summary. Course Syllabus & 11th grade consistencies doc due tomorrow

1) Northern States wanted to stop southern states from succeeding and prove that democracy works
2) The Union won the war by using their advanced technology and military might. The emancipation proclamation allowed for slaves to become free if they joined the Northern cause.
3) As a result of the war, new amendments were passed, which led to Reconstruction


















1) The North fought to keep the nation together, until the end. The south wanted to fight for their rights to slavery


2) The North won because they had more resources / advantages


3) After Lincoln’s victory, the nation went into Reconstruction which changed the nation forever.

Today we took a true/false quiz in partners and then worked together to try and determine the 5 most important details about the civil war.

Tonight's homework is 1-2 pages - synthesize your notes from the last two days to write an informative overview of the Civil War.
