What types of experiences did people have in trying leave, and once they arrived in their new homes? How were they received by the people already living there?

How did this migration change America forever?

How did the stories of the individuals the author focus on help tell the story / help you understand this time period and what America was like at the time in the North and in the South?

For your research & the poster, consider these questions:
What % of the population is immigrants?
What ‘type’ of immigrants are the largest group? (family, work, refugee, etc)
Different treatment for different ‘types’ of immigrants?
Can you travel there easily (how easy to obtain travel visa or equivalent)?
How about get a green card (or an equivalent)?
How hard is it to become a citizen (documents, legal permanent resident status, process, approx time etc)?
Can you have dual citizenship?
Is there a quota system? How many immigrants do they let in a year? How is this decided?
Any other interesting info? Is it hard to leave once you’re there? Is there racial bias in the processes?
